The Practical Paint Preparation Checklist
A practical note from Home Build Calculators.
Clear and protect
Move furniture, cover floors, and remove switch plates. Give yourself a clean path around the room; rushed edges usually create more work later.
Clean the surface
Dust and kitchen film can undermine adhesion. Use a suitable cleaner, rinse where needed, and allow the surface to dry completely.
Repair and sand
Fill small holes and cracks with an appropriate filler. Sand smooth, remove dust, and spot-prime repairs so they do not flash through the finish.
Mask with purpose
Tape only where it improves control. Press the edge firmly, remove tape according to the product guidance, and keep a small brush ready for corrections.
Keep your assumptions visible.
Measure twice, write down the product coverage, and leave room for the conditions you can actually see.
