Planning estimates, not engineering

Every calculator on this site produces a planning estimate. It converts the dimensions you type into quantities using published formulas and standard coverage figures. It does not inspect your site, and it does not know your soil, your span tables, your snow or wind load, your seismic category or the condition of the existing structure. Every calculator in the tool index carries that same limitation. Nothing on this site is a structural calculation, an engineered design, a code compliance certificate, a professional cost estimate or an appraisal, and no result should be treated as one.

Local codes, permits and inspections come first

Building requirements differ by country, state, county and city, and they change. A footing depth, a header size, a joist span, a reinforcement spacing, an insulation R value or a ventilation ratio that is normal in one jurisdiction can fail inspection in another. Before you build, confirm the requirement with your local building department, obtain the permits your work needs, and follow the inspection schedule you are given. Where a licensed engineer or architect is required, that requirement is not satisfied by a number from this site.

Material packaging and coverage vary

Bag weights, sheet sizes, roll lengths, board dimensions, spread rates and yields differ by manufacturer, by product line and sometimes by production batch. Our figures use common values, for example an 80 pound concrete bag or a nominal paint spread rate, but the bag on your pallet may be sized differently and the substrate you are covering may absorb far more than the label predicts. Always read the product data sheet for the exact item you are buying, and order a sensible surplus for waste, offcuts, breakage and future repairs. Where a calculator adds a waste allowance, as the waste factor calculator does, the allowance shown is a typical figure and not a guarantee.

Cost figures are dated estimates

Cost outputs are estimates captured on a stated date from public retail and supplier sources. Material prices move week to week; delivery, taxes, permit fees, equipment rental, disposal and labor are usually excluded unless a calculator says otherwise, and regional differences are large. Treat any figure from the project cost calculator as a starting point for a conversation with suppliers and contractors, and collect written quotes before you set a budget or sign a contract.

Rounding and interpretation

Results are rounded for practical ordering, which means a quantity may sit slightly above or below the exact mathematical answer. Reading a figure incorrectly, entering feet where a field expects inches, or applying a residential formula to a commercial assembly will produce a confidently wrong answer. Check your inputs, convert units deliberately with the metric and imperial converter when a source uses a different system, and sanity check the output against your own experience.

Consult a licensed professional

For anything that affects structure, life safety, drainage, fire separation, electrical, gas, plumbing or mechanical systems, consult a licensed professional in your jurisdiction: a structural engineer, architect, licensed contractor, electrician, plumber or code official as appropriate. Use of this site does not create a professional, contractual or advisory relationship between you and MY Dijital Pazarlama Ajansi.
